Jody Lee Lipes' directing credits include the documentary Ballet 422, which follows choreographer Justin Peck from first rehearsal to world premiere as he creates a work for New York City Ballet (Tribeca Film Festival 2014 / Magnolia Pictures); Girls (Emmy nominee and Golden Globe winner for Best Comedy Series / HBO); NY Export: Opus Jazz, a scripted on-location Jerome Robbins dance film (Audience Award South by Southwest 2010 / PBS, BBC 4); verite documentary Brock Enright: Good Times Will Never Be The Same (South by Southwest 2009 / Factory 25); and commercials for Apple and New York City Ballet.|
His first screenplay, Confederacy, was selected for the Sundance Directors and Screenwriters Labs and both a MacDowell and Yaddo Fellowship.
Lipes is also an Independent Spirit Award-nominated director of photography, chosen as one of Variety's 10 Cinematographers to Watch. His DP credits include Manchester by the Sea (Academy Award / Golden Globe nominee for Best Picture 2017), Trainwreck (Golden Globe nominee for Best Picture 2016), Martha Marcy May Marlene (Winner of Best Director Sundance 2011) and the pilot for USA's forthcoming The Sinner. Commercial and music video collaborators include Justin Timberlake, Jay Z, Adele and Mark Romanek.
